Dr. Lisa Franzetta, L.Ac.

Dr. Lisa has her first cat, a six-toed tabby named Seamus, to thank for introducing her to the world of Chinese medicine. After seeking out supportive care for him when he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, she was amazed to see him deeply relax as he would rest with his needles during acupuncture treatments. She soon discovered that Chinese medicine could offer her, and other two-leggeds, that same sense of wellness.

An East Coast native, Lisa earned her bachelor’s degree in biology at Brown University before settling in the Bay Area. She graduated summa cum laude with a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (MSOM) from Berkeley’s Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine College, and she is a California-licensed acupuncturist and a nationally-certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine (Dipl. O.M.). Her studies in integrative oncology began when she was an intern volunteer at Oakland’s nonprofit Charlotte Maxwell Clinic, providing community-style acupuncture to underserved women with cancer. She deepened her clinical work studying under Dr. Bianca Di Giulio, with a special focus on prescribing customized herbal formulas for cancer patients before, during, and after active treatment. She has also trained at the First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Tianjin, China, world-renowned for its use of acupuncture in rehabilitating post-stroke patients.

Dr. Lisa is a certified Reiki and medical Qigong practitioner, and based on the individual needs of each patient, she incorporates a variety of techniques and modalities into her treatments, including gentle Japanese-style needling, gua sha, and cupping. She also enjoys practicing cosmetic facial acupuncture, using a holistic approach to reduce the signs of the aging process and help the whole body look and feel younger. A long-time vegan, she is interested in supporting her plant-based patients by prescribing customized alternatives to herbal formulas that traditionally contain animal products and by using Chinese medicine to enhance their overall wellness. She is also an avid runner and an RRCA-certified running coach. When not at the clinic, Lisa can be found running the trails of the East Bay, practicing yoga, and relaxing at home, worshipping her rescue cats.

“I always smile when people tell me they believe in acupuncture. Like antibiotics or aspirin, you don’t need to believe in Chinese medicine–it just works! The beauty of this medicine is that, whether you have a broken toe or a broken heart, it offers a path to greater balance and healing.”
